Denied warranty on heat exchanger
Navien denied my warranty for my heat exchanger due to hard water. It died in only 5 years.
They will also only speak to a licensed plumber about my water heater. Stay away from this company.
- Implied warranty but denied when asked to replace product
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified Reviewer |Unit leaks about 2 gallons of water every time I shower
- - Leaks during showers and 2.5 gal buckets catch water.
- - Water bill doubled and the unit had service visits.
- - Hot water cools when nozzle is reduced.
My unit leaks excessive amounts of water when we shower. I put 2.
1/2 gallon buckets to catch the water. I empty them twice a week and sometimes more. My tech has come out several times and has determined my unit has a problem. When they call the Naviant tech line, they let me know in plain language that I was stupid to put buckets underneath to catch the 10 gallons of water a week.
My water bill practically doubled, and they said tough luck. Please let me know why a unit would drain out that much water while using. We almost replaced the unit when new because it never worked correctly, and they came back 4 times before it quit running cold out of nowhere. Also, the hot water turns cold when I go from full to half on the nozzle.
You have to turn it back to full and wait for it to get hot again. I can't believe this is normal. Over a month, that is approximately 40 gallons of water wasted, and also the damage to my walls if I don't empty the buckets on time.
Please explain. I'm waiting for your response.
- Higher water bill
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified ReviewerMaking us pay to have the plumber come out and call their tech support despite the machine leaking internally.
First error code was thrown February 5, 2023 and didn’t indicate that there was an internal leak. We were told to just reset the machine and the issue would resolve.
More error codes began to come up, and had our plumber out to check the unit but he said leaking in the overflow pan was just condensation and was normal. Basically, the unit leaked from day one of install January 28, 2023.
The machine has corroded internally and damaged the gas line valve. It’s not
Our hot water heater needs to be replaced due to a machine defect causing an internal long-term water leak.
- Warranty is not very effective past the one year mark bc labor is no longer included
Preferred solution: New replacement unit
User's recommendation: Allow customers to provide documentation and photos or videos before making them pay money out of pocket for machine defect

Verified ReviewerExtremely poor support from both tech and customer service.
- - Tech support couldn't answer questions about pumps or retrofit options.
- - Customer service said they don't support consumers and sent to a contractor.
My contractor installed a Navien tankless water heater, and I contacted the manufacturer to identify the correct parts for an upgrade. I asked a few basic questions:
Do I need a circulation pump with your valve to reduce water waste?
Does their valve include a pump?
Do you offer a retrofit pump for my unit?
Tech support could not answer any of these questions and would not escalate the call to someone who could.
I then contacted customer service and was told they do not provide support to consumers only to contractors and referred me to a rep, which isn't helpful as a homeowner.
This level of support is unacceptable. I'm simply trying to purchase the correct equipment, and the company is unwilling or unable to provide even basic guidance. I hope they improve their approach if they intend to succeed in the North American market.

There might be a gas smell, I'm not sure. There's a red light flashing, and there's no hot water. There has not been any for a few days. Please help me.

Communication would be nice! Getting your $ back in a timely manner would be nice also. The agents that answered the phone are nice, but I'm sure they could work under better circumstances.

Verified ReviewerNavien is crap
- - Navien unit failed in cold, causing an expensive trip home and damage risk.
- - Navien support advised turning off the main power to avoid zone error.
I have a Navien combined unit in my 2-year-old home. What a mistake it was installing this piece of crap.
I wish I had read the BBB reviews before okaying my plumber to install it in my new home. We winter in Arizona and live in northern British Columbia, so a reliable heating system is a must, and Navien is far from reliable. Recently, I had to make a very expensive flight home because the unit quit working. Of course, lucky our son lives in the same town as us and was able to get some heaters plugged in before too much damage was done, but still, the cold had created cracks in the sheetrock.
Thankfully, no frozen pipes, but he said the toilets were slushy, so very close. When I got home, it took me 2 days to get the unit to fire back up after getting the error codes cleared. I talked to Navien to see how I could get the zone control error code from coming back and shutting down the unit. Their response was to turn off the main power switch.
Oh, how *** stupid! They suggested I turn off the unit and walk away at -30. It just shows how out of touch they are, or maybe I should say stupid. So now I'm having to rush home again because this piece of crap stopped working again.
The unit will be coming out and replaced with something reliable, and of course, this will cost me thousands, but well worth it for peace of mind.
So hopefully this review will be seen by many others before making the same mistake. Don’t install Navien; they are junk!

Verified Reviewer |Disappointing Warranty and Poor Customer Support
- - Frustrating Navien warranty and tech support.
- - Parts sent by tech support did not fix the heater.
- - Issue lingered for over 11 days.
I had a very frustrating experience with Navien, Inc. regarding their water heater warranty and technical support.
Despite my initial hope that their warranty would ensure a quick resolution, the process has been nothing short of a nightmare.
After contacting the company about my malfunctioning water heater, they decided to send replacement parts based on their tech support team's judgment that there were no substantial problems with the device itself. However, after waiting for the replacement parts and having them installed, the water heater still refused to work.
The most infuriating part is that this entire ordeal has dragged on for over 11 days without resolution. Their inability to provide a timely solution highlights the subpar quality of their warranty service. Furthermore, their decision to rely on the contractor's input without thoroughly evaluating the issue themselves has clearly caused unnecessary delays and additional inconvenience.
Upon calling tech support and asking what to do next, I was told they still needed to troubleshoot.
When I expressed frustration, I was bluntly told, "If you like to complain, go ahead and do it." This dismissive attitude was extremely unhelpful and added to my dissatisfaction with their service.
Purchase this brand if you think you won't ever need to deal with tech support or warranty.
Otherwise, we would not recommend this brand at all, based on our experience with a device that we purchased about 2.5 years ago.
I would not recommend this company's water heaters to anyone seeking reliable products and effective technical support. I hope they take this feedback seriously and reevaluate their approach to customer service.
- Dismissive attitude
Preferred solution: The delays and lack of resolution have been frustrating, and I need a working water heater.

Verified ReviewerEpic fail
- - Water heater under 3 years and under warranty.
- - It fails to maintain temperature.
- - Local installer won't inspect; parts delayed; not recommended.
If i could give a zero star i would.
Our navian water heater is less than 3 yrs old & supposed to be under warrentee- it will not keep the temp up- goes cold after less than 2 min in one location & every other location gets complete cold water.
We called, the local plumber who installed it would NOT even come look. Our reg plumber has called the company several times, once on the phone for over an hour with bad results.
So far waiting well past a week for expected parts, this has taken over a month.
I do NOT recommend anyone buy one of these!!! Product & support sucks!!!
User's recommendation: Never ever buy!!!

Verified Reviewer |Resolved: Strongly not recommend Navien
- - Boiler lasted two months; heat exchanger failed.
- - Water leaked from the condensation trap.
- - Warranty denied after submitting photos.
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with product replacement.
I'm an HVAC technician who installed a Navien NFB200h boiler for my client. Unfortunately, the boiler only lasted for two months.
The heat exchanger broke and water kept running out from the condensation trap. I then called the customer service multiple times, trying to get a replacement. I showed them some pictures of how I installed the boiler. The first time, they hung up on me while I was explaining the issue.
The second time, they said the exhaust pipe was not installed properly; however, that's irrelevant as the heat exchanger is broken, which has nothing to do with the exhaust piping.
They denied the warranty submission. They were unprofessional.
- Low quality
Preferred solution: Replacement

Verified ReviewerI spent $650 on a part that cost $50.. with less than a 2 year old system
I am pissed. The Navien system is a plumber's dream come true.
It's a cheaply made unit with defective Korean parts. We need a class action lawsuit on these expensive, overpriced systems.
User's recommendation: Don't Buy One..Old fashion hot water heater and boiler is what you need

Verified Buyer |Worst customer service I have had.
- - The NPE-240S2 failed after installation; replacement sent.
- - Customer service refused help; holidays caused weeks without hot water.
Purchased the NPE-240S2. It did not work once installed, so, I called the number provided.
I was told they could not talk to me only the Plummer who installed the unit.
When he called he was told to remove the top and check a few things, then he was told that it was a sense that was not working, so, they will send a replacement to his company. Once the part arrived, the Plummer installed it. And the tank stared lining water.
Now the holidays got in between so, I had to wait another few days after waiting for two weeks already.
The Plummer was busy with other jobs, and asked, to call customer service and tell them that the unit was not working, and I needed a new one.
I called customer service and explained to them the situation, and all they told me was that they customer not do anything that the Plummer had to talk to the technician, I tried to explain to her that it was going on four weeks with no hot water and that I was loosing a lot if water, the rude lady again said she could not do anything.
I asked to talk to a supervisor, and she said there was no one that could help me, she hung up on me, then I called back to a different department only to get the same response.
After waiting for about an hour I finally spoke to technical support only to say "that maybe the Plummer removed a part.
My thing is and started to think why world they ask the Plummer to move our replacement anything in side the tank?
He's a Plummer, not a tank technician. And according to them now it's the plumbers fault that the tank is not working.
User's recommendation: If you purchase one of their tanks, know that you can not return it if it doesn't work. If you get a plummer and they ask them to open the tank do not do it because they will hold you responsible if anything breaks inside the tank. So do not fall for their trix.l

Verified Reviewer |WORTHLESS Customer Service !!
- - The Navien 2402a tankless has built in recirc.
- - I asked if Navicirc works without a return.
- - I would purchase ACT Demand and not recommend Navien.
Installed a Navien 2402a tankless water heater which has the recirculating pump built in (or says it does).
Was interested in asking ONE simple question about the Navicirc (which allows how water to faucet quicker). Q: Without a dedicated return, would the unit keep hot water present at faucet all the time?
Customer Service said they would only talk to contractors.
Will purchase ACT Demand instead. WONT EVER RECOMMEND NAVIEN to any one.
